Year of the Pig in the Queen City
Oriental Wok in Hyde Park hosted us for a little taste of Chinese New year this week. Susanna Wong's family opened their first restaurant in 1977 in Northern Kentucky. Going back more than four decades they’ve been sharing Chinese culture with the surrounding area; to include having celebrated Chinese New Year publicly for over 25 of those years.
In preparation for their celebration on Feb 24th, she gave us an intro to lucky New Years food (a major component of any celebration) and how certain foods symbolize different aspects or wishes in the coming year. We got to try the Empress Sea Perch as fish represent prosperity, an assortment of dumplings which embody wealth, and noodles = longevity.
Check out the following dishes and try to dig up your own fortunes.
